Adoption - Tour, Local Market and Olympics

Today we had an orientation by our adoption agency. We met the 4 other couples that are also adopting from same agency. After the orientation, they took us on tour to see Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City.

Tiananmen Square
Located at the center of Beijing City is Tiananmen. At the north end of the Square is Tiananmen Tower. Initially built in 1417 during the Ming Dynasty (1368 A.D.- 1644 A.D.), the Square was the front door of the Forbidden City. The most important use of it in the past was to declare in a big ceremony to the common people who became the emperor and who became the empress.

The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. For almost five centuries, it served as the home of the Emperor and his household, as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government.
